A PROGRAM OFFERING MULTIDISCIPLINARY KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF PHYSICS APPLIED TO HEALTHCARE.

Overview and Objectives

PhyMed addresses the scientific need to provide, within a single program, advanced training in applied physics and foundational training in biology and health, in order to bridge the gap between physicists on the one hand and scientists working in the life sciences on the other. The goal is to train biophysicists capable of addressing medical challenges by proposing solutions based on the design and application of new
techniques derived from modern physics:

  • With a view to supporting the application of physics in the medical field through a multidisciplinary program focused on developing a solid understanding of the physical foundations of medical imaging, radiophysics, and physics as applied to healthcare,
  • In this way, providing doctors and students in health-related fields with access to courses in physics applied to biomedicine,
  • To provide career opportunities in the fields of interdisciplinary teaching and public or industrial research in medical imaging,
  • Provide career opportunities in hospitals, the private sector in biotechnology, biomedical instrumentation, or the pharmaceutical industry.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

  • For the M1 program: a bachelor’s degree (L3) or equivalent in physics, biology, health sciences, or other related scientific fields,
  • For the M2 program: Completion of the M1 program in the field, based on academic record,
  • The program is open to the general public and offers continuing education with the option of recognition of prior learning and experience (VAE),
  • The training program is open to residents and doctors of medicine, pharmacy, or dentistry.

Further education

Opportunities to pursue doctoral studies. The Montpellier-based laboratories involved in the program include, among others:

  • Southern Institute of Electronics (IES),
  • Charles Coulomb Laboratory (L2C),
  • Montpellier Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics, and Microelectronics (LIRMM).
  • Movement to Health (M2H) Laboratory.

Career Opportunities

  • Biophysicist working in the industrial, hospital, and academic sectors,
  • Careers in medical imaging,
  • Development, use, and maintenance of medical devices in the medical and hospital sectors,
  • R&D engineering in industrial fields related to physics and healthcare,
  • Eligibility to take the DQPRM exam (Medical Physicist working in a hospital setting),
  • Pursuing a doctoral degree with the aim of entering careers in higher education and public research,
  • Guidance for medical professionals interested in pursuing careers in biophysics and medical imaging within hospital departments of radiology, nuclear medicine, and others.
